The 2024 PNBAA Business Aviation Internship

JOB DESCRIPTION

The PNBAA Business Aviation Intern will work closely with the FBO, Service Center, and Fleet Maintenance teams at Hillsboro Aviation to gain relevant experience while developing a holistic understanding of career opportunities available to A&Ps in the business aviation industry right here in the Pacific Northwest. This position is expected to contribute in a meaningful and productive way while opening themselves to the mentorship and coaching opportunities that will arise while working side by side with A&Ps and aviation professionals who have significant experience in the business aviation industry.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for all delegated activity from Hillsboro Aviation management
  • Provide exceptional customer service internally and externally
  • Fuel, tow, and clean aircraft
  • Maintain facilities and rolling stock in terms of functionality, organization, and cleanliness
  • With proper supervision, ensure both the safety and airworthiness of aircraft assigned
  • With proper supervision, ensure all maintenance performed on an assigned aircraft is performed pursuant to applicable FARs and company policies and procedures
  • Ensure participation and team’s participation in Hillsboro Aviation’s SMS program
  • Ability to work under strict supervision and receive coaching from a qualified professional

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities


WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates both in a hanger environment and field environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, and multi-line phones plus specialized tools and equipment related to aircraft maintenance and operations.


PHYSICAL DEMAND

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear
  • There will be long periods of standing, walking and frequently lifting, carrying, bending, reaching and utilizing ladders
  • This position requires the ability to work in confined spaces such as inside aircraft fuselage access points, fuel cells, delicate structures, lines, cables, flight controls and flight control surfaces
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 50lbs regularly


POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This internship takes place from Monday August 19th, 2024, through Friday September 20th, 2024 (5 weeks). During that time, the intern will be expected to work approximately 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, keeping in mind that overtime is not approved. The schedule is subject to change but is expected to be 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.
  • The intern will be compensated hourly at a rate of $22.00 per hour. Payroll will be processed once every two weeks in accordance with Hillsboro Aviation’s standard payroll schedule.


TRAVEL

  • This position is expected to attend the PNBAA Seattle Golf Tournament on Thursday, September 12th, 2024, in Newcastle Washington.
  • This position will have an opportunity to visit at least one (1) other PNBAA Member Company(s) during the internship
  • This position will have an opportunity to visit a remote helicopter base used for aerial firefighting and/or SAR missions during the internship


QUALIFICATIONS/LICENSE

  • Must possess an unrestricted driver’s license
  • Must possess a comprehensive set of hand tools

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Must be actively enrolled in PCC’s AMT program
  • Must be actively pursuing Airframe & Powerplant certificates issued by the FAA
  • Must have working knowledge of FARs regarding maintenance activity
  • Must understand privileges and limitations related to A&P certificates and proper maintenance documentation

 

REQUIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in customer service environment
  • Prior experience maintaining equipment
